Introduce yourself.
I run a company.
situation: Ken is continuing his conversation with Sam using the translation application of smart phone.
Ken : You mean you live in Cebu in the Philippines?
Sam: Yes, but I live in a hotel.
Ken: Living in a hotel ? That sounds nice. Seems like every day is a vacation.
Sam: Yes, it may look like that to others. But in my case , I can work wherever there’s an internet connection. I often work at the hotel pool-side.
Ken: Cool!
Sam: The offices are located in Cebu, Tokyo and Bangkok. I shuttle back and forth. So to others, it look like a vacation every day, travelling from day to day.
Ken: What kind of work do you do?
Sam: I run a company.
Ken: Run? Are you into the sports business?
Sam: I am a president of a company. Run does not only mean to run physically, but it also means to manage.
Ken. Now, I’m learning. What kind of company is it?
Sam: I’m in overseas market advancement consulting.
Ken: ? ? I don’t understand, for example?
Sam: Give advice on the market trends of a country, differences in business practices, finding locations to set up factories, employing local human resources …
Ken: Hmm, I think I get the rough picture. Seems interesting! So you must be very busy flying around the world?
Sam: No, not really. I’m in management so my job is to manage the overseas market advancement consultants working locally. I can work at any place in any style I like.
Ken: That’s cool. I read in the newspapers the other day that people working freely like that is increasing.
Sam: They call us “Nomad Workers”. The spread of Internet has made it free to work at any place and by creation of new business, you don’t have to be employed. Times are good now.

Ken 「フィリピンのセブに住んでいるんですか？」
Sam 「住んでいるといってもホテル暮らしだけどね」
Ken 「ホテル暮らしかぁ、いいなぁ！ 毎日がヴァケーションみたいですね」
Sam 「たしかにね。僕の場合、インターネットができる環境ならどこでも仕事ができるから、よくホテルのプールサイドで仕事をしているよ」
Ken 「かっこいい～！」
Sam 「オフィスはセブと東京、バンコクにあって、行ったり来たりしているから、毎日がバケーション、日々旅行って感じかなぁ」
Ken 「いったいどんな仕事をされているんですか？」
Sam 「会社を経営しているんだよ(I run a company)」
Ken 「run？ スポーツ関連の仕事ですか？」
Sam 「会社の社長をしているんだよ。Runは走るという意味だけじゃなく、経営という意味があるんだ」
Ken 「へぇ～、知りませんでした。どんな会社なんですか？」
Sam 「海外進出コンサルタントだよ」
Ken 「え？ また知らない単語です。なんですか、それ？」
Sam 「日本の会社が海外に進出するときに、それに付随する一連の業務をサポートしてあげるんだ」
Ken 「？？ よくわかりません。たとえば？」
Sam 「その国の市場動向や商習慣の違いを教えてあげたり、工場の土地を探してあげたり、現地の人材を採用してあげたり…」
Ken 「なんとなくわかりました。おもしろそうですね。じゃあ、世界を飛び回って、忙しいんじゃないですか？」
Sam 「そんなことないよ。僕は経営者だから、現地にいる海外進出コンサルタントをマネージメントしているんだよ。だから、好きな場所で好きなスタイルで仕事しているんだ」
Ken 「かっこいいな～。最近新聞で読みました。そういう自由な働き方をしている人が増えているって」
Sam 「ノマドワーカー、なんて呼ばれているよね。インターネットの発達により、働く場所も自由になったし、新しいビジネスを創生できるから雇われなくてもよくなった。いい時代だよね」
