ストーリーで学ぶ - Chapter.5-4 - Decision to take an MBA course abroad.
Situation: Sam’s success story continues.
Ken: Quite a success story, isn’t it?
Sam: No, that isn’t the end of the story.
Ken: You mean there’s more to it?
Sam: Yes, in the study group, I taught them how to participate in overseas
exhibitions and shows, how to prepare brochures and web pages in
English. The more I did, the more I became aware of my limited
knowledge.
Ken: What do you mean?
Sam: When I started out, the study group members listened to me, saying “I
see”, but then, as it progressed, I couldn’t answer the questions thrown at
me. I had the knowlegde for advancing overseas, but I didn’t have any
knowledge of small factories or about management.
Ken: So, what did you do?
Sam: I decided to study abroad.
Ken: Study abroad!!
Sam: I had been studying English on my own, but then, the more acquainted I became with overseas customers, I realized how weak my English was. So I decided to learn both English and Management.
Ken: So, you went to the faculty of management in a university?
Sam: No, a graduate school.
Ken: You mean the one they call MBA?
Sam: That’s right.
Ken: Cool!

Sam 「そう。勉強会では、海外の展示会の出展のしかたや、英語のパンフレットのつくり方とか、英語のホームページのつくり方を教えた。でも、アウトプットすればするほど、自分の知識の浅さを思い知るようになった。」
Ken 「どういうことですか？」
Sam 「最初のうちは勉強会のメンバーも『なるほどー！』と話を聞いてくれていたけど、最後のほうは質問されても答えられないことが多くなってきた。僕は海外進出のノウハウは知っていても、町工場全体のこと、経営については何も知らないんだなぁ、と。」
Ken 「で、どうしたんですか？」
Sam 「留学しようと考えたんだ。」
Ken 「留学！」
Sam 「英語もそれなりに独学で勉強はしていたけど、海外のお客さんと仲良くなるにつけ、自分の英語力のなさを実感するようになった。だから、英語と経営学を身に着けたいと思ったんだ。」
Ken 「じゃ、大学の経営学科に？」
Sam 「いや、大学院。」
Ken 「MBAってやつですか？」
Sam 「そう、その通り。」
Ken 「すごーい！」
